My hometown recently got its first Wingstop, and I couldn’t wait to try some of their most popular sides. One bite of Wingstop’s Voodoo Fries - crispy seasoned fries topped with creamy cheese sauce and a drizzle of ranch - and I was hooked. This homemade version captures all the bold, savory flavor with simple ingredients and just a few easy steps.

Wingstop started back in 1994 in Garland, Texas, as a small restaurant serving buffalo-style wings, and it’s grown into a global chain with over 2,500 locations. Known for its retro aviation theme and bold flavors, Wingstop has become a go-to spot for wing lovers. Their menu features everything from saucy wings and crispy tenders to flavorful sides like seasoned fries and creamy ranch dressing made in-house.
As you can see if you look around this blog, I'm a big fan of making restaurant copycat dishes at home. Another Texas favorite, Lupe Tortilla's Fajitas Grandioso, is a very popular recipe here. You may also enjoy Texas Roadhouse's Chili or Herb Crusted Chicken. Texas is a big part of my past, as I lived in Houston for 5 years, so the Texas-grown Wingstop reminds me of that.
Ingredients
This copycat recipe uses simple, easy-to-find ingredients to recreate the bold flavors of Wingstop’s Voodoo Fries at home. From the crispy fries to the creamy cheese sauce and zesty seasoning blend, each component plays a role in delivering that signature taste.

French fries – Frozen fries keep this recipe quick and easy. Any style will work, but straight-cut fries hold the toppings well.
Light brown sugar – Adds a hint of sweetness that balances the savory and spicy elements in the seasoning.
Garlic powder – A pantry staple that gives the fries that familiar garlicky kick.
Onion powder – Rounds out the flavor profile with mild, savory depth.
Smoked paprika – Brings a subtle smoky note that pairs perfectly with the cheese sauce.
Salt – Enhances all the other seasonings and the fries themselves.
Cayenne pepper – Adds heat to the mix—feel free to adjust to taste.
Chili powder – Gives the seasoning an earthy, slightly spicy flavor.
Black pepper – A touch of sharpness to tie everything together.
Cheddar cheese – The base of the creamy cheese sauce; sharp or mild cheddar both work.
Milk – Helps create a smooth, pourable cheese sauce.
Butter – Used to start the roux for the cheese sauce and adds richness.
All-purpose flour – Thickens the cheese sauce to the right consistency.
Ranch dressing – A drizzle of ranch on top adds a cool, tangy contrast to the spicy fries and gooey cheese.

Instructions
Start by preheating your oven according to the instructions on the frozen fries package. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil to make cleanup easier.
Step 1

While the oven is heating, mix all the seasonings together in a small bowl. This will be your flavorful fry seasoning.
Step 2

Spread the fries in a single even layer on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle most of the seasoning mix over the top, saving a little for later. Toss the fries gently to coat them evenly, then bake according to the package directions.
Step 3

As the fries cook, make the cheese sauce. Melt the butter in a small pot, then whisk in the flour and cook for a minute. Slowly add the milk while whisking, then stir in the shredded cheese a bit at a time until the sauce is smooth and melty.
Step 4

Once the fries are done, transfer them to a serving dish. Drizzle with the warm cheese sauce, then finish with a little ranch dressing and the rest of the seasoning mix. Serve right away while everything is hot and delicious.
Hint: For the smoothest cheese sauce, make sure to add the cheese gradually and stir constantly over low heat—this helps prevent clumping and keeps the sauce creamy instead of grainy.
Variations
One fun thing about this Wingstop Louisiana Voodoo Fries recipe is how easy it is to customize. Instead of traditional fries, try using tater tots or potato wedges for a different texture—both hold up well under the cheese sauce and toppings. You can also sprinkle chopped green onions over the top for a fresh, slightly sharp bite that cuts through the richness. Want even more heat? Add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce to turn up the spice and give the dish an extra kick.

Equipment
You don’t need any fancy tools to make this Wingstop copycat recipe, just a few basic kitchen items. A baking sheet is essential for getting the fries crispy in the oven - line it with parchment paper or foil to make cleanup easier. Use a small bowl to mix the seasoning blend, and a small pot to make the cheese sauce. A whisk is helpful for stirring the sauce smoothly, and a spatula or spoon will make tossing and serving the fries simple.
Storage
If you have leftover fries, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, spread them out on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes, or until they’re hot and crispy again. You can also warm the cheese sauce separately on the stove over low heat or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently.

Top tip
Don’t skip tossing the fries with the seasoning before baking—this helps the spices bake into the fries for maximum flavor, instead of just sitting on top. A light toss makes a big difference!
Serving Suggestions
These fries are a perfect pick for game day - bold, cheesy, and just spicy enough to keep things interesting. Serve them as a hearty side dish alongside wings, sliders, or grilled sausages for a crowd-pleasing spread. Their mix of creamy cheese sauce, savory seasoning, and a drizzle of ranch makes them a standout on any party table.
You can also enjoy Wingstop's fries as a main dish by adding a little protein on top. Try sliced grilled chicken, crumbled bacon, or even leftover pulled pork for a satisfying twist. Add a side salad or some fresh veggies to balance out the richness, and you’ve got a full meal that’s easy and delicious.
